I'm beginning to think that making a decision once apparently isn't enough. It seems as though you've got to decide on things at least two times before they become final. Case in point: the siding. Before signing the contract, we had to make a decision on the siding material to use on the house. As mentioned in earlier posts we original went with steel because of cost, but after looking closer decided it just wasn't going to give us the look we wanted. Or rather, it gave us a look we didn't like. So, we felt like fiber cement, or Hardi was the way to go. Well, two months later, we're at it again. It's like everyone forgot that a decision had been made. I guess what brought this up again is that the framing of the house might be done differently depending on the siding type. In this case, if we use Hardi, it's heavier and means we might not be able to do the 24" On Center framing we would have liked to have done and which would have gotten us a LEED point.
Now, that said, just choosing a siding type only gets you so far. You've got
widths to choose from,
styles to choose from and
so on. To help, we asked Ryan to help us visualize what he had in mind. This visualization also helped confirm the exterior
color of the windows (Bronze). What did he give us...?

You can start to see how things are starting to come together. Window placement is final. As is the stone. The siding is probably too skinny because we'll probably end up with 6" inch on the lower half, with the 10" redwood siding on the top. Everything gets the same paint which is working toward a shade of gray at the moment. So, there will be some variation there, but otherwise, it's all starting to take shape!
