Sewer Suprise

In our first real surprise of the project so far (and that seems pretty good considering where we're at in the process), we found out the existing sewer pipe was completely clogged full. You might be asking how a sewer can be clogged and still function. I mean wouldn't this fail an inspection? So, surely I must mean just mostly full. Well...see for yourself... this a cross section that was pulled from just inside the house.

Pretty amazing. No one (us, the contractor, the plumbers or even the city) could figure out where anything went. We even checked for the possibility of another pipe...to no avail. Guess we just have really well fertilized ground.

Anyway, rather than having to dig up the whole pipe and replace it, they somehow applied enough pressure to clean the dirt out and insert a new PVC pipe. If setup right, that should suit us for years to come. They did dig up some spot to get access to the pipe at certain points to check out how far out it was full...and it was full a good 20 ft out from the house. So, somehow, we've got a new pile of dirt. Better than a big ol' pile of sh....
