The Hole is Dug and the Foundation Starts

Unfortunately for Ann, she wasn't offered the opportunity to dig out the hole that's to become the basement. After she helped knock down the house, the crew spent last week starting to build up the foundation. Only a few days of work, but they poured the footings and have started to build the framework in which they'll pour the foundation walls. Here's some pics to help...

I assume they'll finish building the metal wall and then pour the concrete to build the wall. But, we'll see what happens next week.

The other news is that we finally picked out Window type. Way back when, we started with Marvin, but came all the way down to Jeld Wen Builders series because of cost, but ultimately decided on the Marvin Integrity series. They're wood interior and this fiberglass composite on the exterior. The best, but good enough. And the solar performance specs are in line with our LEED guidelines.

In order to afford the extra cost for the Integrity windows, we're changing our wood type on the flooring. We started with Elm, but it's not particularly hard and there's concerns about it twisting, so we're headed toward the more traditional Oak. We still need to figure out the finish and White vs Red Oak.

That's it for today. Here's a cute pic to end with.
